Are you FULL of thanks? I am. I am thankful for it ALL; the good, the bad, the somewhere in the middle. The fact that I have oxygen flowing through my body means that I have another opportunity to do something dynamic and that makes me thank-FUL.

In these times where it's so easy to be FULL of negativity, take a moment to give thanks. Simple, genuine thanks. Start with one thing until you find your thoughts overflowing with positive confessions. I am thankful for my family, my home, my life, my love and even my dog, :). And I am thankful for you, and you and especially you. :) I'm pointing at you.

Giving thanks

Celebrate U !

Have you taken a moment to think about ALL of the wonderful qualities that make YOU so fantastic? Special? Unique? A designer's original? I hope you have. I have. I've deemed today a special day. Not because I have anything noteworthy happening. But simply because I'm celebrating ME and  loving who I am.

I'm not perfect and I've got flaws. I'd love to fix this or change that or hid this or get rid of that. But today, I'm comfortable with me and LOVE what I see when I look in the mirror, just like I love the beauty in you.

Take a moment to celebrate yourself. You're special, talented, unique, awesome, one-of-a-kind, sweet, intelligent and much much more. Practice thinking positive things about yourself until they become habit. The only way others will celebrate us is when we first start celebrating ourselves. HAPPY DAY TO AN EXTRA SPECIAL U, PRETTY GIRL.....

In Honor of TRUTH

Truth needs no introduction. She is effortlessly attractive like the girl that enters the room with her head up high. Captivating. Not because she has on the latest named brands or has a shape to knock em' dead. But because she believes and she knows her value, her worth, her own self-proclaimed goodness.

The real. That's what Truth speaks. She doesn't pretend or try to keep up with imitation because she's long discovered that it doesn't fit HER. It doesn't work. It isn't right for the walk that she takes and the words that she speaks.

You've met Truth. I know you've seen her before. Truth is in all in us. It's that smile, the laugh, the presences in you  that captivates a room. Truth is beauty and love and so so so much more. Truth comes out when you understanding that you are who you are and nothing else is needed. Magnificent (smile) Truth is magnificent. Like you and I. Take a look in the mirror, you'll see.

Truth is all there is and ALL that we need in order to see, our Pretty ME. Thank God for my Truth and for the Truth in you.

No Images

No Images

By William Waring Cuney

She does not know
her beauty,
she thinks her brown body
has no glory.

If she could dance
under palm trees
and see her image in the river,
she would know.

But there are no palm trees
on the street,
and dish water gives back
no images.
This is one of my favorite poems. I was introduced to it while studying literature in college. Using short simple phrases and specific visual images, Mr. Cuney crafted the most realistic portrait of the young black/brown girl in a positive tone. It affirms the beauty, freedom and glory girls have. Yet it speaks to the plight of young girls TODAY better than the news could, though this poem was written years ago.
Oh for ALL of us to embrace our glory. To embrace our creative and intellectual freedom. To move, dance, smile.... wild.... fierce and free in the majestic images we represent.
We must create the images we want our girls to see. Dish water can't do it for us, and there are no flowing springs running through the hoods.
